When you think Canadian ice sports, most people think hockey; but not Travis Jayner. Jayner, who was born in New Brunswick Canada to American parents, began skating when he was 5 years old at the prompting of his father who was a speedskater when he was a child. While Travis excelled at other sports such as soccer, volleyball, track and cross country in high school, his first love was and continues to be speedskating.
Jayner is a well-rounded athlete competing in the 500m, 1000m, 1500m, 3000m and 5000m team relay. He has consistently finished in the top ten in National and World Cup events. Travis achieved on of his dreams when he not only made the World Short Track team in the 2006-2007 season, but won a bronze medal at the world championships. He continues to belong to and train on the national team, preparing not only to defend his bronze, but aim for the gold.
Jayner is bilingual (French and English) and has been studying city planning at McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and Concordia University. Jayner currently resides and trains in Salt Lake City, Utah. In his free time he enjoys various sports like skiing and golf as well as cooking and reading.
